Second Chances – By David Welty

Second Chances – Written by David Welty

Grandpa Carl and John enjoying our “Second Changes” that Welty is referring to; it is such a joy to be with the new and growing family.

It’s not very often that we get a second chance in life. When we have raised our children and we have aged, we tend to look back and more often than not wish we had spent a little more time listening and playing with our children. As we all know they just grew too fast and many of us feel that there were many missed opportunities.

The older we get, the more we realize what is truly important….it certainly isn’t a big career, fancy cars or a big house. It is the joy and love that comes with family and to those of us that God blesses with grandchildren, we truly do get a second chance. We now can take all day to listen and play with our children’s children.

The short temper that some of us had as parents seems to completely disappear and spending time with our grandchildren becomes a joy with true unconditional love. Our grandchildren believe grandma and grandpa know everything and can do anything. We all know this will soon pass too quickly, however we are embracing our second chances while they last.

Love is a Parent’s Greatest Gift to Children

Malachi

Love is the greatest gift we can give our children. When we love and demonstrate this love to our children they will follow and obey. In our society the word love is often misundestood and mistaken to mean a sexual relationship. But true love is a divine spirit that is caring, nurturing, sacrificial, enduring, and willing to suffer long for someone. A parent’s love is the foundation of a lasting and enduring relationship that  builds a strong family; this kind of love builds  a home with a solid foundation that can weather the storms we all go through in life.

Many  children who have been physically, mentally or emotionally abused have run away from homes  and this is not their fault.   Starting at home loves everyone as we need help in different ways, love in unconditional.

When trying to understand the word love we  focus on the word’s original meaning found in Greek, here we find nothing that is connected to a sexual relationship.  The root of the word “love” is agape and agapo, which means love, affection, and fondness.

Starts at Home encourages parents to love their children; love is the greatest gift.

Teach a Child Early In Life

Amy and Olivia

Teach a child early in life so as they grow older they will not depart from those teachings. Children are most receptive to learning when they’re young. It’s wise to be planting good concepts and skills before the age of seven. The exposure of media and other children could teach them other harmful concepts, that will be very difficult to re-educate later in life.

When parents teach children at a young age they will have a  choice… the parent’s way or the worldly way.

What we plant early in a child’s life are gifts to our chidlren.
